On a Saturday, around 100 participants met at the University of Applied Sciences of Economics (FHDW)the second round of the successful MARPLE programming competition to ring in the new year. Prospective information technology assistants (or students on a comparable course) from vocational colleges in North Rhine-Westphalia competed against each other in teams.

Task definition

This year's programming task was:

2D classic - Ma Rio Islands
Develop a 2D computer game in Mario style with Microsoft technologies!

A critical jury - consisting of the FHDW team - assessed the results after several hours of teamwork, which was characterized by highs and lows, pleasure and frustration, Red Bull and excellent food from the live cooking. All teams did a fantastic job and we are proud that so many participants made the long journey to take part in this event!

Microsoft Student Partners were on hand to answer questions and give tips throughout the programming competition. At the same time, some of us gave interesting presentations on exciting IT topics, such as the versatility of Microsoft Azure and the possibilities of porting iOS apps to the Windows platform.
